Founded in 1988 by the Jazz Bass player Tobias Festl, WOB has continued to grow over the years, establishing itself as one of the leading specialist bass shops in Europe and indeed the rest of the world. Tobias's vast experience and knowledge of double basses gives him the edge over his contemporaries in many respects, and his special talent for finding special instruments has helped many a player to find the right bass to fit their playing needs. With well over one hundred instruments ranging from beginners and student models through to beautiful old Italian master instruments, orchestral and solo, four string and five string, there is definitely something for everyone here at World of Basses.

The workshop, too, is a place of great importance. The four luthiers currently working here bring together an incredible amount of experience from their different violin-making backgrounds. The exchange of ideas over the last 21 years has formed the foundation for the techniques of restoration, repair and set-up work which take place in the workshop today. Bringing with them the methods and ideas from other well-known workshops has ensured that the quality of their work has been kept to the highest possible standard.

We pride ourselves in the range and quality of our instruments and of our repair and set-up work. We undertake all kinds of work from the simplest crack repair or fingerboard shooting, through to neck-grafts, soundpost patches and more complicated restoration work. Although we specialise in Double Basses, repair work on all instruments of the violin family are regularly carried out in our workshop.

Needless to say, we also have a wide variety of accessories such as bass- covers, strings, rosins, pick-ups, amplifiers, dampits, bridge wheels etc. etc.

So, if you're looking for an new or old instrument or your current bass needs a little attention, please don't hesitate to call us and enquire.
